Cohesive/Adhesive strengths of CsOH-chemisorbed SS304 surfaces

During the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant (1F) accident, an overwhelming amount of the cesium remaining in the pressure vessel could have been deposited onto 304 stainless steel (SS304) steam separators and dryers, both with large surface areas. During 1F's decommissioning, the deposited cesium is a safety hazard as it can generate radioactive dust. However, the cohesive and adhesive strengths of CsOH-chemisorbed oxide scales are yet to be defined. In this study, we investigated how CsOH-chemisorption affects the cohesive and adhesive strengths between oxide scales and SS304 substrates with a scratch tester. The scratch test results revealed that the cohesive strengths of the oxide scales decreased after CsOH-chemisorption, while adhesive failure could not be reached.

On the mathematical model with morphological change of tumorigenesis in view

Ouchi, Noriyuki

Hoken Butsuri, 40(2), p.166 - 169, 2005/06

Development of the new mathematical model of the carcinogenesis in a low dose in mind is reported. The new model which describes from cell canceration to the tumorigenesis in consideration of the physical dynamics of a cell level was built. In a cell group level, it has both intra-cellular dynamics, such as mutation, cell division, and cell death, and physical dynamics such as, adhesion between cells, modification, and movement, and a model can investigate with time that tumor is formed.

Development of cold isostatic pressing graphite module for a heat-resistant lower hybrid current drive antenna

Review of Scientific Instruments, 76(5), p.053501_1 - 053501_7, 2005/05

Development of a plasma facing module using Cold Isostatic Pressing Graphite (CIPG) had been done for a heat-resistant LHCD antenna. A thin stainless film (10$$mu$$m), molybdenum film (10$$mu$$m) and copper film (50$$mu$$m) are laid to overlap each other on the CIPG materials, the CIPG surfaces were successfully coated with copper layer by diffusion bonding method. This module has four waveguides and a water cooling channel, the length is 206 mm. High power long pulse operation was successfully achieved up to 250 kW (125 MW/m$$^{2}$$)/700s. The module has been successfully tested at a RF power density which is equivalent, in terms of RF electric field (5kV/cm), to the one proposed for the LHCD antenna of ITER-FEAT. The outgassing rate of the copper-coated CIPG is estimated to be 3.2-5.1$$times$$10$$^{-6}$$ Pa.m$$^{3}$$/s.m$$^{2}$$ at 100$$^{circ}$$C, it is assessed that a pumping system is not required to evacuate the pressure in the LHCD antenna.
